Brand Library & Art Center presents a unique art experience that probes the boundaries of body and being through actual and virtual space. Curated by Laura Darlington and Selwa Sweiden, Beyond Embodiment features 25 pioneering female, non-binary, and trans artists exhibiting work in a dizzying array of medium including sculpture, video, animation, ceramics, textile, printmaking, photography, installation, performance, and virtual and augmented reality. Physicality, identity, and presence are explored and biological systems, from the primordial to the post-human, are examined and transfigured by technology. Situating the body as form and function, material and process, site and portal, these artists investigate the potentialities of the human condition.

There will be a public Opening Reception on Saturday, January 25th from 6-9PM featuring a special interactive live performance of “Proximity Cinema” by Tiffany Trenda. Curators and artists will be in attendance.
